Sam and Mary Jane Roop wanted to do a family project with their three small children. They wanted to incorporate the farm, family, and agricultural education.
In 1996 Brookfield Pumpkins was born. We started with one acre of pumpkins and gourds. We found our first year that the public loved the experience of being on the farm.
As our number of pumpkins grew so did our children. Julie, Lauren, and Jake were all in elementary school when the pumpkin patch started. The girls painted faces for a quarter, while Jake helped by picking gourds and pumpkins.
